In October 1991, the Assurex Global board of directors established a permanent endowment fund known at the time as the “Robert P. Ashlock Scholarship Fund.” Bob Ashlock served as Assurex Global president & CEO from 1977-1992, and under his leadership the Assurex Development Corporation (ADC) and PAR, Ltd. were established.
Bob’s personal desire was to support professional development and education in agency management and entrepreneurial endeavors. Shortly after the creation of this fund, Bob passed away in January 1992 following a three-year battle with cancer. In 2009, the Assurex Global board of directors approved the transfer of $125,000 from the fund (managed by the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation) to create the Assurex Global Robert P. Ashlock Scholarship and be administered by the The Council Foundation*.
This scholarship is designated for distribution annually to a student in the risk management and insurance program at Temple University in Philadelphia.
*Recognizing the importance of educating young leaders and developing talent early, The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (The Council) developed the The Council Foundation (previously called FAME) in 2006. The Council Foundation is focused on recruiting the next generation and making a positive impact on the future of the commercial insurance brokerage industry.
