Update: MAI Central Eastern Europe & Ukraine

,

From Assurex Global Partner MAI Central Eastern Europe:

The Russian military aggression against Ukraine has been declared a force-majeure event by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce. As a result, insurance services cannot be provided in territories with active military actions. In the territories with lower military aggression, services can be provided with a certain limitation.

Currently, insurance companies continue to work and provide services to their clients, but the level of the provided services has slowed down. Claims connected with military actions are excluded from the coverage.

Employee Benefits — Health Insurance:

The priority is emergency care. Planned assistance can poorly be provided to the population, only within the calm territories and with certain limitations. Insurers can organize online consultations for outpatient care, and the pharmacies’ medicines can be collected.

Some of the insurers can organize free psychological consultations. The local authorities organize evacuation from the regions with active military actions.

All the services covered by the policy and paid by the insured can be reimbursed; there may be limits that remain a matter of discussion with each insurer. Military actions are not covered.

Insurers are now servicing the current contracts, and renewals can be considered in accordance with the abovementioned situation.

Life/ PA/Travel Insurance:

There is still a possibility to quote short life/PA policies and travel policies. Insurers are now in the process of accepting the possibility of reimbursing the losses made only with electronic documents, as there is no possibility in Ukraine to collect the documents and provide originals to the insurers. The limit amount is a matter of discussion with each insurer. Military actions are also not covered.

Property & Casualty/Motor Insurance:

The policies do not cover the losses connected with military actions. Some insurers have ceased quoting and issuing the renewed policies under P&C lines; some may provide an extension of the current cover for two months. Those who continue providing quotes do so with a limited set of risks and are subject to a regional selection.

The losses can be notified to the insurance companies, but the process of claims handling and indemnity may only be possible after a certain stabilization in Ukraine.
